Report: Steelers Will Have Daunting Task On Christmas Day Against Kansas City Chiefs
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers know which NFL franchises are on the 2024 schedule, but the league's official schedule release will occur on NFL Network on Wednesday evening. Mike Tomlin and co. are expected to have one of the toughest slates in the league. Leaks will begin to come out regarding when the Steelers will be playing, and it appears the organization may have gotten the first bad news of the schedule release a bit early. A new report is stating that Pittsburgh will have a tall task on Christmas Day (a Wednesday) in the Steel City.

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan  took to social media on Tuesday evening to claim that sources are telling him the Steelers will face off against the defending Super Bowl champion, the Kansas City Chiefs.

His co-host on the PM Team w/Poni & Mueller also took the time to confirm what Fillipponi was reporting, stating that it's very possible that Pittsburgh plays on Christmas Day.

This is a unique situation for the NFL and Roger Goodell recently said that the plan is to have four teams play the Saturday before and then swap opponents on the following Wednesday (Christmas). The commissioner cited the COVID-19 season as proof that something like this could be done. In fact, Pittsburgh played on a Wednesday against the Baltimore Ravens in 2020.

Some may question Fillipponi's sources, but a lot are quick to forget he was the first was to report that the team's stadium would be changed from Heinz Field to Acrisure Stadium.

It's less than ideal to play a game on a Sunday and have a short turnaround to a Saturday game. It becomes even worse when one realized there is another short week immediately after coming on the following Wednesday. If there is any positive, a mini-bye will come entering one of the season's final weeks, but it still isn't going to be something any player or coach gets excited about.

Steelers Will Face Kansas City As Chiefs Enter Most Dominant Time Of Year

Kansas City is entering the dynasty conversation and while the team doesn't always perform well at the beginning of each season, Patrick Mahomes and co. close out strong. Facing him and Andy Reid in late December is a nightmare for any team, let alone it being a primetime game on a holiday. If this holds true, it'll be a tough task for the Steelers, even at home.
