The ECHL Department of Players Safety has announced that Trois-Rivieres Lions forward Jonathan Yantsis has been suspended indefinitely pending review and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions at the 11:29 mark of the second period in Game 5 vs Norfolk Admirals. Yantsis would check Norfolk’s Darick Louis-Jean from behind as Louis-Jean would end up leaving the ice on a stretcher. He would be assessed a match penalty for boarding. The 25-year-old forward will miss tonight’s game vs. Norfolk. He has one assist in five Kelly Cup Playoff Games so far this season.

Yantsis is in his rookie year in the ECHL but is already on his second team. He originally signed with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits after finishing his collegiate career at Queen’s University. The Ontario winger played in 13 ECHL games during the regular season, with both his goals coming in the final weekend vs. Worcester Railers to help the Lions clinch their spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Yantsis had 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points in 61 games during his collegiate career.

The Lions and Admirals will meet once again this afternoon. The Admirals have a chance to clinch the North Division Finals, while the Lions will look to force a game 7 on Wednesday Night. Puck drop is at 3 PM EST.
